Hot favorites including ChanelDiorLouis VuittonVersace, and Yves Saint Laurent all have runway shows during this nine-day fashion festival. These will be presented at a variety of venues across the city, together with inspiration from up-and-coming designers.
Next week’s event focuses on women’s Ready-to-Wear collections. All eyes will be on the runway, as the Fall/Winter season’s hotly anticipated trends are revealed to an expectant audience. Visitors to the city can mingle with publicists, socialites, journalists, stylists and models, as the fashion world descends on one of its main spiritual homes in an extravagant celebration of all things haute couture.

Details on participating designers, times and venues, are available here.

Style Capital of the World

One of the world’s most visited cities, Paris offers a fantastic range of fine dining and luxury shopping opportunities. The city is home to many popular tourist attractions, including the Eiffel Tower, the Arc de TriompheNotre Dame Cathedral, and the Louvre museum. With its tree-lined parks, chic outdoor cafes and cobblestoned streets, Paris has an atmosphere all of its own. Fashionistas will feel immediately at home, in what is arguably the style capital of the world.

Flying into Paris

Paris Le Bourget (IATA: LBG, ICAO: LFPB) is Europe’s busiest airport for private jets. The airport caters specifically to General Aviation (GA) traffic (as well as military and government flights), and offers multiple services aimed at business aviation customers. Central Paris can be accessed by car within around 45 minutes.
Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (IATA: CDG, ICAO: LFPG) and Paris Orly Airport (IATA: ORY, ICAO: LFPO) also cater to GA, although both are subject to certain limitations. While Charles De Gaulle Airport can cater to GA traffic, only business aviation passengers who are connecting to commercial flights may use the airport. Additionally, the plane is only allowed to stay on the ground for a limited amount of time. At Paris Orly, GA traffic can only access the airport for diplomatic flights, or for dropping off travelers who have an onward connection with a commercial airline.

Landing Permits, Slots and Parking

Regardless of the destination airport chosen, any non-EU registered charter flight must first obtain a landing permit. In general, this takes around five working days to process. One of the main advantages of Paris Le Bourget is that it does not have allocated slots, and there are no limits on GA traffic. The only real restriction in place is that aircraft with wingspans over 53 meters must use a special parking area. These parking slots are allocated on a first come, first-serve basis. Charles De Gaulle and Paris Orly are both used mainly for commercial traffic, and slots are always required. Business aviation aircraft requesting to land at either will be denied permission, unless the passengers on board have connections to commercial flights. Hangarage is available at Paris Le Bourget, including for larger aircraft such as the Boeing Business Jet series and Airbus Corporate Jets. The hangars can accommodate planes with a maximum tail height of 12 meters, and wingspans of up to 40 meters.

Departure Times

Paris Le Bourget is open 24 hours a day, however restrictions are in place for jet engine take-offs. Planes with jet engines are not allowed to leave between 22:15 and 06:00 local time. At Charles De Gaulle, stage three aircraft are limited to taking off between 05:00 and 11:59, and stage two aircraft are restricted to departures between 06:01 and 11:14. Paris Orly operates only between 06:00 and 10:30.

Ground Transportation

A variety of VIP ground transport options are available at Paris Le Bourget. A car or limousine can be easily hired, however a reservation is generally needed prior to arrival. To find out more about the available options and book your transport, be sure to speak with our Paris Le Bourget team in advance. No ground transportation is available at Paris Orly or Charles De Gaulle for GA travelers, as all passengers must be boarding commercial airlines.

For the reasons outlined above, Paris Le Bourget remains the best available option for GA flights operating into Paris.

Photo of Monaco

The Principality of Monaco is located on the French Riviera in Western Europe. Monaco is the second smallest country in the world, with a total area of just 2.02 square kilometers and around 37,800 inhabitants.

Despite its small size, Monaco is home to the highest number of millionaires per capita in the world. The state is considered a tax haven, with low business taxes and no income tax. According to United Nations figures, it boasts the world’s second highest GDP per capita. Monaco’s economic development took off in the late 19th century, with the opening of its first casino and the establishment of a railway connection to Paris. Since then, the tiny city-state has grown into a popular high-end tourist destination, and is known around the world as a playground for the rich and famous.

Popular Attractions

Monte Carlo is the central quarter of the Principality of Monaco. The famous Carré d’Or is a glamorous area in the heart of the city, which is home to many elegant luxury boutiques. The Casino de Monte-Carlo is the world’s best-known casino. This ornate gambling house has featured in several movies, and is the most iconic building in Monaco. Other notable attractions include the Opéra de Monte-Carlo, Hotel de Paris, and the Café de Paris. A number of world-renowned annual events take place in Monte Carlo, including the Monaco Grand Prix, Monte Carlo Fashion Week, and the European Poker Tour grand final.

Another must-see area within the principality is Monaco City. Also known as The Rock, this historical district retains the architecture and atmosphere of a medieval village. Key landmarks include the Prince’s Palace, Saint Nicholas Cathedral, the Oceanographic Museum, St. Martin Gardens, the Museum of the Chapel of Visitation, and Fort Antoine Theatre.

Flying to Monaco

Monaco Heliport (IATA: MCM, ICAO: LNMC) is the only aviation facility within the Principality of Monaco. The state does not have an airport of its own. The nearest airport available is Nice Côte d’Azur Airport (IATA: NCE, ICAO: LFMN). Located 5.9km southwest of Nice, LFMN is the third busiest airport in France. Due to its close proximity, LFMN serves Monaco by offering regular helicopter shuttle services. The approximate flying time by helicopter from Nice Airport to Monaco Heliport is just seven minutes.

Nice Airport caters to General Aviation (GA) and functions as an Airport of Entry (AoE), with customs and immigration available on-site 24/7. Prior Permission Required (PPR) is mandatory for both arrivals and departures. Airport slots also need to be booked in advance. Once slots and PPR numbers have been obtained, aircraft parking can then be secured. Long-term parking is available, with no restrictions on the size of aircraft during the winter season. LFMN is fully equipped with ground support equipment, and can provide handling services for all aircraft types. An executive lounge is accessible for passengers and crew at the GA terminal. It is important to note that refueling cannot be done between 23:00 and 07:00 local time. Noise restrictions may also apply at night, depending on the type of aircraft. An aircraft noise certificate needs to be submitted, in order to determine if the aircraft is compliant with local regulations.

Processing times for permits and bookings vary according to the flight date. Air traffic is generally low during winter, until May. The most congested times of year are July and August. The end of May is also extremely busy, due to the Monaco Grand Prix and Cannes Film Festival. Operators arranging flights during these peak periods are strongly recommended to submit their request as early as possible, preferably before the beginning of April.

Cannes-Mandelieu Airport (IATA: CEQ, ICAO: LFMD) is located approximately 60km from the Principality of Monaco. LFMD caters to GA, and can serve as an AoE. The airport is open seven days a week. Operating times are from 08:00 to 20:00 during winter, and 07:00 until 30 minutes after sunset during summer. Slot bookings, PPR, and parking permits are mandatory only in May, during the Cannes Film Festival and Monaco Grand Prix. There are no restrictions to long-term parking. LFMD is fully equipped for all ground handling services, and offers two VIP lounges, one crew car, a crew lounge and snooze room. Operators will be asked to provide GenDec and passenger manifests for all flights. Flight arrangements can be made at any time, however it is advisable to book in advance, especially for the month of May.

Super Bowl Football League photo

Next Sunday, the city of Houston hosts the biggest event in the National Football League (NFL) calendar. The 51st annual Super Bowl will be held on February 5 at NRG Stadium, home ground of the Houston Texans. The American Football Conference champions (New England Patriots) will face off against the winners of the National Football Conference (Atlanta Falcons).

This will be the third time the event has been held in Houston, following on from Super Bowl VIII (1974) and Super Bowl XXXVIII (2004). Super Bowl LI is the Patriots’ ninth appearance in the final, the most of any team. It is also their second appearance in three years, and seventh under the leadership of coach Bill Belichick and star quarterback Tom Brady. The Falcons are making their second appearance and aiming to win their first ever Super Bowl, having been defeated in 1999 by the Denver Broncos.

In accordance with the annual rotation between AFC and NFC teams, the Falcons are the designated home team and have chosen to wear their red home jerseys. The Patriots will wear their white road jerseys. The Patriots go into the game as favorites and are hoping to repeat their 2015 success, when they beat the Seattle Seahawks to claim their fourth Super Bowl title.

More Than Just a Game

In addition to the main event, the Super Bowl is famous around the world for its halftime show. Previous years have seen some of the biggest stars from the entertainment world wow the crowd, including Michael Jackson, Prince, Madonna, Paul McCartney and the Rolling Stones. This year’s show will be headlined by Lady Gaga, who promises to bring her unique style to the stage. Outside the stadium, a fan festival called Super Bowl LIVE will run from January 28 until February 5, in downtown Houston’s Discovery Green. This free event offers food and entertainment, allowing those without a ticket for the game to experience the excitement of Super Bowl LI. Over a million people are expected to arrive in the city to soak up the atmosphere of America’s greatest sporting event.

Flying into Houston

The primary international airport serving Houston is George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IATA: IAH, ICAO: KIAH). The airport is located around 40km north of NRG Stadium. KIAH offers 24/7 Airport of Entry (AoE), although please note that customs and immigration is closed between midnight and 05:00 local time. PPR is mandatory, and landing permits are required for both non-revenue private and non-scheduled commercial flights. No special requirements are in place during the event period, however due to the high volume of flights expected it is recommended to arrange all permits at the earliest opportunity. KIAH is fully equipped for ground handling services, and has passenger and crew lounges available. Slot bookings will be required, and advance booking is also needed for aircraft parking. Long-term parking is possible, subject to availability. A non-refundable special event fee is in place during the Super Bowl, which is determined according to aircraft size and will be payable upon booking.

The other preferred option for traveling to the Super Bowl is William P. Hobby Airport (IATA: HOU, ICAO: KHOU). Located just 18km west of the stadium, KHOU is an AoE and has customs and immigration available 24 hours. Slot bookings will be required from February 2 until February 6. Due to the high volume of traffic over this period, no amendments will be permitted after your slot has been allocated. The airport is fully equipped for ground handling. Advance payment is required for aircraft parking, and this will be on a non-refundable basis. A special helicopter shuttle service can be arranged directly to NRG Stadium. Please note that advance booking is recommended, as spaces are limited.

Ground support equipment

A crucial factor when planning a trip is to ensure the availability of all necessary ground support equipment at your destination. This is especially important when operating to remote locations.

In this article, we will explore some of the key points to consider before you fly.

Is the correct type of fuel available?

Before flying, it is always recommended to confirm what types of fuel are available at your destination. Additionally, the delivery method needs to be taken into account. Fuel hydrants are not always available, and if fuel is to be delivered by truck it may be necessary to make arrangements in advance. This is especially true if the fuel needs to be brought in from outside the airport. Organizing this can lead to additional costs, and a longer time spent on the ground. Fuel quality may also present challenges, with contamination a possibility at more remote locations, where fuel may sometimes need to be pumped from a barrel. For peace of mind, you should always work with a trusted provider. All of Jetex’s fuel providers are subject to a stringent auditing process, ensuring only the highest quality fuel is delivered at all times.

Do you need aircraft stairs?

Large and wide-body aircraft may require external stairs in order for passengers and crew to board or alight. If your aircraft requires stairs, it is important to ensure the destination airport has the correct equipment available. It may be necessary to make special arrangements, which can result in extra expenses or delays.

Is any baggage handling equipment required?

Larger classes of aircraft may require specific baggage handling equipment, in the form of belt loaders and lifts. For airports with high volumes of commercial airliner activity, availability of this equipment may be limited. Always be sure to check in advance if you will be arriving during during peak hours.

Is a towbar required?

At many airports, it is mandatory to carry a towbar on board the plane. If this cannot be provided, then parking will not be confirmed. Bear in mind that local FBO operators may not have the correct type of tow bar available for your plane, especially for less common types of aircraft. Before flying, it is highly recommended to confirm whether you need to bring your own towbar head, or even the full towbar.

Does the airport provide ground power units (GPU)?

In some destinations, restrictions are in place on the use of auxiliary power units (APU). It may be that your APU can only be used during specific times of day. For particularly noise-sensitive airports, it is often only permitted to use APU for a few minutes before and after landing. As a result, it is important to check on the availability of GPU at your destination, especially if your aircraft will be on the ground for a long time.

Is oxygen available?

Be prepared for the fact that oxygen may not always be available at your destination airport. Some countries have tight restrictions in place governing the storage and distribution of pressurized gases, and in more rural locations the ground handlers may lack the necessary facilities. When it comes to the replenishment of on-board oxygen, you also need to ensure that the supplier is approved to service your particular aircraft type.

Is cabin disinsection required?

For certain destinations, regulations apply which require all inbound aircraft cabins to be treated with an insecticide spray before landing. These include India, Australia, some Caribbean countries and parts of Africa. It can prove tricky to obtain the necessary sprays in some locations, due to local restrictions on the chemical ingredients. If disinsection is required for your flight you are strongly advised to source and obtain your supply of insecticide spray in advance.

Is deicing fluid available?

When flying in colder climates, it is important to check on the availability of the correct type of deicing fluid for your aircraft. Be aware that the quality of local brands can vary, and in certain destinations fluids have been found to be corrosive to aircraft paint. Be sure to investigate the local procedures at your airport of arrival, in order to avoid any unnecessary delays during peak periods.

Any other equipment considerations?

There are various smaller pieces of equipment which may be specific to your aircraft, such as ladders to access the engines, specialist tools and cleaning equipment. It pays to be mindful that the correct items might not always be available at your destination airport. Even simple wheel chocks can occasionally be in short supply during local event periods.

Be prepared with Jetex

As outlined above, it is highly recommended to ensure all equipment requirements are checked in advance. This is especially true when operating to remote destinations or airfields with less frequent general aviation (GA) traffic, where some of the equipment needed may not be available on-site. In such cases, it is advisable to allow two weeks lead time to make all the necessary arrangements.

The Jetex team has vast experience in global trip planning, and will be happy to guide you in case of any questions relating to equipment at your next destination. For expert advice, contact us today on +971 4 212 4000 or email info@jetex.com.

Photo of the Caribbean

Photo of Berlin Germany

Berlin is the largest city in Germany, with a population of over four million. The German capital is well-known for its vibrant culture and arts scene. Visitors can explore countless galleries and museums, and admire the abundance of historic architecture throughout the city.

The Brandenburg Gate is an iconic landmark for both Berlin and Germany, representing European history, unity and peace. Another important cultural site is the East Side Gallery, an outdoor exhibition of art painted directly onto a preserved 1.3km stretch of the Berlin Wall.

The Gendarmenmarkt is Berlin’s main square. Dating back to the late 17th century, it is home to a breathtaking architectural ensemble which includes the Konzerthaus concert hall and the famous Friedrichstadt and Neue Kirche Churches. During December, the square hosts one of Germany’s most popular Christmas markets.

Museum Island, a UNESCO world heritage site, consists of five museums built between 1830 and 1930. Other notable visitor attractions include the Reichstag building, Berlin Cathedral, Berlin City Palace, the Holocaust Memorial, the Gemäldegalerie, the Kurfürstendamm and Oberbaum Bridge.

Contemporary Berlin is a global city, with a thriving economy driven by high-tech firms, the creative industries and the service sector. It is also renowned for its modern convention venues and cutting-edge research facilities. Berlin is extremely popular with tourists, and has become the third most visited destination in Europe. The city is well known for its lively nightlife, tolerant atmosphere and sense of internationalism.

Airport Options

Berlin Tegel Airport (IATA: TXL, ICAO: EDDT) is the primary international airport in Berlin. It is the fourth busiest in Germany, having served over 20 million passengers in 2015. The airport is located approximately 8km northwest of Berlin city center, and is expected to close down once the new Berlin Brandenburg Airport opens in 2018.

Currently, EDDT airport can be used as an Airport of Entry (AoE), although not 24/7. Customs and immigration are on duty from 05:00 UTC until 22:00 UTC. Slot bookings, aircraft parking permits and Prior Permissions Required (PPR) are all mandatory. The maximum parking time allowed is two hours, and landing after 21:00 UTC is prohibited. The FBOs at the airport are not open 24 hours a day, however full ground handling services are available, as well as VIP and crew lounges. It is recommended that operators send all handling requests at least 72 hours prior to departure.

The secondary airport serving the city is Berlin Schonefeld Airport (IATA: SXF, ICAO: EDDB). EDDB is situated 18km southeast of central Berlin, and served over 8.5 million passengers in 2015. Unlike Tegal Airport, Schonefeld offers AoE and customs and immigration 24/7. Note however that EDDB’s GA terminal is closed from 21:00 UTC to 03:00 UTC, therefore FBO operating hours start at 04:00 UTC and end at 20:00 UTC. Due to the limited number of GA slots available, slot bookings are mandatory. PPR and parking permits are not required, and there are no restrictions to long-term parking. All permits and handling arrangements require a minimum of 48 hours advance notice.

Landing Permits and Visas

Landing permits are required only for scheduled commercial and charter flights. The processing time for a landing permit is two working days. Visas may be required for passengers and crew, depending on nationality.
