Gulf Concours 2017

This weekend, the iconic Burj Al Arab in Dubai is set to host the second edition of Gulf Concours, a highly exclusive event celebrating the finest in elite motoring. Invited guests will have a unique opportunity to explore a stunning collection of more than $200m USD worth of classic and bespoke modern cars, all in the lavish surroundings of the world’s most opulent hotel.

.
A Legacy of Elegance

The inaugural Gulf Concours was held last year to great acclaim, and returns once again to the Burj Al Arab’s luxurious terrace. The event draws inspiration from renowned international motor shows such as the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este in Lake Como, Italy, and the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in California, USA.

Concours d’Elegance (or “competition of elegance”) is a French term referring to an event where prestigious rare vehicles are displayed and judged. The concept originated in 17th century France, where the aristocracy would parade their stylish horse-drawn carriages through Parisian parks during summer. Transportation evolved, however the tradition remained. With the advent of the motor car, these gatherings took on a more competitive edge, with owners striving to show off the latest advances. Vehicle judging standards at Concours events are highly demanding, with trained judges examining each and every component of the cars in minute detail. Only those which are found to be in mint condition can hope to gain entry to the trophy class.

Today’s Concours events focus mostly on rare classic cars which have been restored and maintained in pristine condition, together with the latest in cutting-edge prototypes and high-end supercars. This fascinating blend of old and new offers a delightful spectacle for vintage motor enthusiasts and fans of modern technology alike.

Raising the Bar for Luxury Motoring

The Gulf Concours was established with the goal of developing a globally-renowned Concours d’elegance in time for Dubai’s landmark Expo 2020, and attracts the region’s most discerning collectors and connoisseurs. Owners of prestige cars in the Middle East demand the finest in luxury, and are regarded as world leaders when it comes to specifying highly customized supercars. These exacting requirements represent a throwback to the glory days of motoring, when a car would be as individual as its owner. To reflect the values of this important demographic, a brand-new category has been introduced especially for the Gulf Concours; “Best Modern Bespoke”. The incredible machines in this group are destined to become the sought-after collectibles of the future.

Gulf Concours 2017

This year, Gulf Concours celebrates three key themes; excellence, heritage and originality. Around 50 of the region’s most outstanding examples of motoring elegance will be on display, with vehicles set to be judged in the following categories:

  • Best Classic Car
  • Best Classic Design
  • Best Modern Bespoke
  • Best Special Edition
  • Highly Commended Classic Sports Car
  • Highly Commended Classic Restoration

The Burj Al Arab’s stunning terrace offers the perfect space in which to admire this incredible collection. Guests can enjoy exquisite hospitality while taking in displays from legendary prestige marques such as Aston Martin, Rolls-Royce and Bentley, privately-owned classics including a 1922 Mercedes SSK and a 1959 Ferrari 250 GT California Spyder, and an awe-inspiring range of the latest custom-fitted supercars.

Judges at the competition will include the British royal Prince Michael of Kent, and Sandra Button, current chair of Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, whose presence underlines the international credentials of the latest addition to the exclusive world of Concours. Gulf Concours is blazing a trail for region’s high-end motoring scene, and highlights Dubai’s importance as a global capital of luxury on the world stage.

Gulf Concours 2017 takes place at the Burj Al Arab in Dubai, from Thursday 7th to Saturday 9th December. Visit the official website for full details on this exclusive event.
