Dubai South

Last month’s Dubai Airshow 2017 saw Dubai South Aviation District target further major investment, as it sets its sights on becoming the world’s foremost international aviation hub. Several exciting projects are currently underway which will create an unrivaled infrastructure, realizing the vision of HH Sheikh Mohammad bin Rashid al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, to “build the aviation capital of the world.”

Dubai: Center of the World

The UAE’s geographical position marks Dubai as an ideal staging post for intercontinental flights. The emirate is already firmly established as a thriving travel hub, with Dubai International Airport (DXB) ranking as the world’s busiest by passenger traffic for three years running – a total of 83,654,250 passengers passed through the airport in 2016. More than 100 airlines fly to DXB, connecting travelers to over 200 destinations around the world.

Dubai International Airport currently ranks number one in the world for passenger traffic, and serves as a major global transport hub.

Dubai has long played an important role in the exchange of culture and commodities, both throughout the Middle East and beyond. Its location between east and west places it squarely at the center of international trade, and a series of ambitious new developments are set to transform the city into an unrivaled global logistics gateway.

MEASA: One of the World’s Fastest-growing Markets

Recent years have seen the world economy transition towards new emerging markets. Among the most dynamic is the Middle East, Africa and South Asia (MEASA) region, which is the second fastest-growing market globally and comprises some 23% of the world’s population. With at least half of this group under the age of 25, and GDP projected to rise steadily across the region, MEASA looks set to enjoy a period of sustained economic growth.

World-class infrastructure is required in order to support this growth, and Dubai South Aviation District’s blueprint promises to deliver state-of-the-art, custom-built facilities with the capacity to maximize the exciting opportunities for doing business in the region.

Dubai South: Building the Aeropolis of the Future

The Dubai South master plan envisions a fully-integrated city built around Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC). Set to become the world’s largest airport, DWC will have the capacity to handle up to 220 million passengers and 16 million tons of cargo per annum. The surrounding development will comprise eight distinct districts, including areas dedicated to aviation, business, commerce, logistics and recreation, as well as an upmarket residential district and the much-anticipated Dubai Expo 2020 site. This one-of-a-kind “aeropolis” will host in excess of a million people, and is expected to create at least half a million jobs in the area.

The aviation district will offer a complete spectrum of world-class aerospace services, incorporating cutting-edge MRO providers, hangarage, warehouses, office space, research and development facilities, education and training centers (including the renowned Emirates flight academy), and an airside custom-bonded free zone. The UAE’s open economy and business-friendly regulations have already attracted countless multinationals to the region. Around 50 per cent of Fortune 500 companies have offices in its free zones and industrial cities, including 70 of the top 100 firms.

One of the new development’s key advantages is undoubtedly the Dubai Logistics Corridor, which provides a convenient route for seamless transportation of cargo by sea, air and road between DWC and the nearby Jebel Ali Port. Dubai is situated between over 150 shipping lanes, making it the third-largest hub for global sea cargo (after Hong Kong and Singapore). Streamlined customs procedures allow goods to travel directly between the sea and air in as little as four hours.

Dubai’s Jebel Ali Port was ranked No. 1 in terms of productivity for handling ships in a 2014 report by industry analysts Journal of Commerce (JoC).

Dubai South Aviation District will also house a hospitality zone, offering visitors the convenience of a range of world-class accommodation, dining and recreation options adjacent to where they will come to do business. A state-of-the-art VIP terminal completes the offerings, enabling private aviation passengers to arrive in comfort and style..

Jetex and Dubai South

Jetex is perfectly placed to serve the needs of the business aviation community, with two unique FBO facilities operating from the aviation district’s VIP terminal.
