Jetex Makes Flying with a Reduced Carbon Footprint Possible

Jetex customers are now able to choose to fly with a reduced carbon footprint from six key global locations following an agreement with Shell. This demonstrates how general aviation service providers can support the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and its commitment to reducing the industry’s carbon emissions by 50% by 2050.

As an award-winning global leader in executive aviation, Jetex is fully aware of its responsibility towards the natural environment and to future generations, and pursues a comprehensive environmental strategy.

In today’s world, private aviation is a vital global catalyst for growth, providing access to markets, supporting jobs and promoting travel recovery. In addition to its many positive economic effects, though, air transport contributes to the production of carbon emissions. In response, Jetex is working with Shell to offer customers an option to offset the carbon emissions of their air travel. Offsets represent an immediate measure that can be deployed at scale by compensating for CO2 emissions.

Every day, more than 200 aircraft fueled by Jetex take to the sky across the world. Being at the forefront of aviation fuel efficiency, Jetex is determined to reduce carbon emissions to continue developing without devaluing the environment. The new tool allows Jetex customers to calculate their flight emissions associated with the use of jet fuel and reduce them by choosing to invest in environment conservation programs. The programs are certified by international organizations such as the Verified Carbon Standard as well as Climate, Community, and Biodiversity Standard, and include protection or redevelopment of natural ecosystems – such as forests, grasslands and wetlands – to lower concentrations of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. To recognize customers’ input, Jetex will be issuing certificates acknowledging individual contributions.

Adel Mardini, Founder & CEO of Jetex, commented: “With private aviation growing, we are even more aware that our future has to be sustainable. Solving the complex issue of climate protection requires a multifaceted response, and offsetting emissions on flights is just one step that we are adopting to reduce our environmental impact. By working with Shell, we have carefully chosen environmental programs to ensure they are proven and deliver CO2 emissions reductions as well as benefits to the communities and local biodiversity.”

“We look forward to working with Jetex to help enable their customers to compensate for flight emissions by choosing Shell’s high-quality nature-based carbon offsets,” said Anna Mascolo, President of Global Aviation at Shell. “Until sustainable aviation fuels and technology are developed at scale, carbon offsets will play a key role in helping the aviation sector achieve net-zero emissions.”

The new service is initially offered at Dubai, Paris, Singapore, Dublin, Dusseldorf and Salalah airports, with more locations being added as more of our customers want to lead the way to fly with reduced carbon footprint.

With energy and resource conservation being at the heart of its operations, Jetex is always looking to deliver the best value to its customers globally while helping them to reduce their carbon footprint. The new carbon offset program will provide a sound foundation for further globally orchestrated and genuinely effective environmental protection measures within the private aviation sector.

U.S. to Require COVID-19 Tests for All International Visitors

As of 26 January 2021, all travelers, including US citizens arriving into the United States from a foreign country will be required to get tested no more than three days prior to their flight departure and to provide proof of the negative result or documentation of having recovered from COVID-19 to the carrier before boarding the flight.

Anyone who is currently abroad or has plans to go abroad and return on/after 26 January 2021 as well as international travelers who are due to enter the United States must comply with the newly implemented regulations.

Air carriers will be responsible for verifying the required documentation. If any passengers decide not to test or provide test results, “the airline must deny boarding”, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

It is also advised by the CDC to get tested again three to five days after arriving into the U.S. and quarantining at the address in which travelers are staying for seven days post-travel.

UK-EU Trade Agreement and Post-Brexit Flight Operations

From 1 January 2021, UK and EU operators are treated as third country operators in each other’s airspace. UK and EU carriers traffic rights are now defined by reference to the Agreement and those rights are fundamentally different to the single European airspace which the UK previously benefitted from. Under the Agreement, UK and EU air carriers will continue to enjoy flyover rights and operating rights on routes between the UK and the EU (third and fourth freedom rights).

Neither UK nor EU carriers will be able to operate intra-EU or intra-UK cabotage routes respectively.

UK and EU carriers are not automatically entitled to operate routes which have an intermediary stop in the EU or UK respectively, where passengers/cargo are loaded/offloaded before continuing to a third-country destination (fifth freedom rights). However, the Agreement does permit the UK and individual EU Member States to negotiate bilateral agreements for fifth-freedom all-cargo flights (discussed further below).

EU operators flying from the EU to the UK

The new trade agreement which came into effect on 31 Dec 2020, requires a Foreign Carrier Permit for all non-UK operators intending to operate commercial flights to, from or within the United Kingdom.

The UK Foreign Carrier Permits will not be required for:

UK Operators flying from the UK to the EU

UK commercial operators will be treated as all other non-European operators when conducting flights to/from or within Europe. If a UK operator has not reached an agreement with the Civil Aviation Authority of each EU state, they will have to apply for a commercial permit for every trip.

The following categories of the UK operators are exempted:

Global Vaccine Logistics

The COVID-19 outbreak has shaken the world and is continuously spreading with little signs of slowing down. Vaccination may be the only effective and economical option to slow down the virus and end the pandemic. As such many pharmaceutical companies and research organisations are striving towards achieving a viable vaccine. There are currently several vaccines in phase three clinical trials and two that have been approved for full use. Now with a vaccine in sight, thoughts are now turning to how it will be distributed.

Delivering billions of doses of a vaccine that must be transported and stored in a deep-frozen state to the entire world efficiently will involve hugely complex logistical challenges across the supply chain. Air cargo plays a key role in the distribution of vaccines in normal times through well-established global time- and temperature-sensitive distribution systems.

With the global route network reduced dramatically from the pre-COVID 22,000 city pairs, governments need to re-establish air connectivity to ensure adequate capacity is available for vaccine distribution. Just providing a single dose to 7.8 billion people would fill 8,000 Boeing 747 cargo aircraft.

Jetex Cargo Flight Charter Service can facilitate the safe transport and careful handling of sensitive cargo, including the COVID-19 vaccine. Our knowledgeable team will find the right aircraft for your requirements, considering the volume and intended destination.

Jetex can bring COVID-19 vaccine cargo anywhere with our comprehensive cargo charter services:

Our cargo flight charter services have benefited numerous industries over the years, including automotive, oil and gas, pharmaceutical, medical, and humanitarian organizations. Leveraging our global network and comprehensive cargo charter solutions, our clients streamline the transportation of goods and equipment while generating savings in cost, time, and manpower.

Singapore’s Answer to Resuming International Travel: Travel Bubbles

Travelers from Singapore will be the first to land in Hong Kong since all nonresidents were banned from the country in March. That’s after Singapore announced this month it would create the world’s first “travel bubble” with Hong Kong, after ministers from both governments announced a preliminary agreement this week.

Under this agreement, residents from either city will soon be able to travel to the other without having to quarantine, so long as they test negative for Covid-19.

The Beginning of a Trend

This begins a strategy to open travel among countries that have the corona virus under control. Singapore is also lifting restrictions on visitors from Brunei, Vietnam, New Zealand and Australia, except for the state of Victoria, where cases are still high. Before the pandemic, these countries represented almost half of Singapore’s passenger traffic. So, this is welcomed news for Singapore’s travel-dependent industries.

Before these agreements, only business travelers had been able to take advantage of business corridors that were off-limits to the casual traveler. Once it’s in place, those who need to visit family, friends, or who just need some adventure, can board a plane bound for one of the other cities in Singapore’s expanding quarantine-free bubble.

In fact, we expect more of these agreements in the coming months as cities and countries carefully open travel to other low-risk locales. It’s a move toward normalcy, while also keeping new case numbers in check.

Essentially, countries considered safe can be treated as one single quarantine area. People within this area need not apply for permission but may be tested upon arrival as a precaution.

Testing Replaces Quarantine

Details of the of the Singapore-Hong Kong Bubble and other Singapore Travel Bubbles will be fleshed out in the coming weeks, but we do know that testing plays a central role. Travelers must prove they have been in their origin cities for 14 days before departure and will need to take Covid-19 tests that are recognized by both countries. The cost of the tests and who bears that burden haven’t yet been disclosed.

Travel bubbles have been difficult to establish because the virus keeps flaring in communities where it had once been under control and because a 14-day quarantine requirement proved too disruptive for most travelers.

A survey of travelers by the IATA in June found that 83% were unwilling to travel if it meant a 14-day quarantine. This deal between Singapore and Hong Kong has eliminated that requirement.
