Formula_one-2

Who will spray the magnum of champagne at this year’s Spanish Grand Prix? Will Sebastian Vettel regain his lead? Can Lewis Hamilton stay on top? This May 11-13, thousands of Formula One fans head to sunny Barcelona to watch their favorite driver compete on one of the most exciting courses in the Grand Prix. Why is it a favorite?

The course is a challenge. The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya offers long straights and a mix of high- and low-speed corners with plenty of tire wear. The more tire wear, the more pit stops, which you can view from one of the best grandstands in Formula One.  A natural amphitheater layout means every seat is good and VIP suites offer views of the pit-lane garages.

A Day in Barcelona

A more peaceful alternative to the race is the city of Barcelona, which boasts prized collections of artwork by Picasso, architectural marvels by Gaudi, Gothic churches, parks, tree-lined boulevards, and cafes.

A Day at the Beach

If a day at the beach is more your speed, there are plenty of choices not far from Barcelona. Playa de Sitges is a peaceful beach about 30 minutes south of Barcelona. There you’ll experience the culture of Spain minus the chaos of some of the more crowded beaches.  North of Barcelona on the Costa Brava is the beautiful town beach town of Calella. The water is clear and lunch at the Hotel St. Roc is worth the drive.

A trip to the Spanish Coast offers something for everyone.

What to take: sunglasses, sunscreen

What not to take: Professional recording equipment is forbidden at the race. This includes DSLRs. Your cell phone is okay, but don’t take any photos or video for commercial purposes.

Getting There

Expect a spike in private jet traffic on May 10th to Barcelona El Prat Airport (IATA: BCN). The airport is 12 km south of Barcelona and has a dedicated corporate jet terminal equipped to handle all categories of private aviation.
