Budapest Hungary city photo

Budapest, known as the Heart of Europe, is the capital of Hungary. Situated on the Danube River, the city has around 1.8 million inhabitants and is recognized as the country’s main economic, financial and cultural center.

With a rich history stretching back over two thousand years, Budapest has plenty of stories to tell. Ruins from the times of the Roman Empire and the Middle Ages can still be found in the city today. The Buda Castle QuarterAndrássy Avenue and the banks of the Danube are all listed as UNESCO world heritage sites.
The Danube river winds through Budapest, separating the two sides of the city (Buda on the west, and Pest on the east). It is the longest river in the European Union. Budapest also boasts one of the world’s largest thermal water cave systems, and has more thermal and medicinal water springs than any other capital city. Visitors flock here to enjoy the numerous spas and thermal baths.

Budapest is home to a wealth of museums, theaters, concert halls and Michelin-starred restaurants. A variety of popular cultural and sporting events are held in the city, including the bi-annual Budapest Fashion Week, the Sziget Festival, and the Budapest Fringe Festival.

This fascinating destination attracts more than four million international tourists every year, who are enchanted by its stunning architecture and picturesque location on the banks of the Danube.
