Not too far from the center of town is The Percherska Lavra that is renowned for its bell tower, astonishing museum collections and ancient cathedrals on its grounds. On the right bank of the Dnieper River lie remaining parts of the old city. Vulytsya Volodymyrska is the main street of the old city.
Authentic Ukrainian cuisine can be found throughout the city. Stuffed dumplings (Varenyky), small pastries and traditional soup (Borscht) made a wonderful meal. Breads and wheat products are very important to the cuisine, with elaborate decorations on top for special occasions. Traditional potato pancakes (Deruny) are also a must try on a trip to the city.
The peak of summer draws a great mass of people to the city. With highs of over 25°C, outdoor activities are enjoyed throughout Kiev. A large outdoor party is thrown on Khreschatyk Street and Independence Square at night and thousands of people enjoy their time in nearby restaurants, bars and coffee shops.
